Spools and Dowels

Elementary and middle schools are full of inventors and artists, both boys and girls, who are ready to apply what they know and to extend their learning as designers, builders and engineers. Whether building a model of an 18th century mill, inventing a pull toy with gears and cams, or creating a pop-up device to illustrate a story, these sturdents are engaged in inquiry and they are improving their problem solving skills. Design and invention work is, by its very nature, interdisciplinary.

Spools

For wheels, pulleys, or as a structural part of cardboard gears, these spools are wonderful for design technology work. Center hole diameter 7 mm (accepts 1/4 in dowel as an axle). Small spool: diam. 29 mm, length 30 mm. Packed in bags of 50.
